![]() Domenech (right) chose Anelka to start France's first two games France striker Nicolas Anelka has been sent home from the World Cup after verbally insulting coach Raymond Domenech during the Mexico game. The Chelsea star missed training on Saturday after reports of a row with the France coach during their 2-0 loss. And he later refused to apologise when asked to by French Football Federation president Jean-Pierre Escalettes. An FFF statement said the 31-year-old's half-time comments to Domenech were "totally unacceptable". The statement continued: "Faced by the refusal of the player to publicly apologise, he (Escalettes) took the decision in total agreement with the coach and the official members of the delegation present to exclude Nicolas Anelka from the squad." France captain Patrice Evra also attended the meeting with Anelka at the French training camp in Knysa. And Evra accused a "traitor" within the French camp of leaking the story to the media. "The problem of France is not Anelka, but the traitor among us. "We must eliminate the traitor from the group because he wants to hurt the team," the Manchester United full-back said. Anelka, a League and FA Cup double winner with Chelsea this season, has won 71 international caps. He scored twice on his debut against England in 1999 but later spent three years in the international wilderness after refusing to play for Les Bleus under coach Jacques Santini. [video=www.youtube.com/v/wExyiIoNndc]Israeli forces have attacked a flotilla of aid-carrying ships aiming to break the country's siege on Gaza.
Up to 16 people were killed and dozens injured when troops stormed the Freedom Flotilla early on Monday, the Israeli Army Radio said.
The flotilla was attacked in international waters, 65km off the Gaza coast.
Footage from the flotilla's lead vessel, the Mavi Marmara, showed armed Israeli soldiers boarding the ship and helicopters flying overhead.
Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal, on board the Mavi Marmara, said Israeli troops had used live ammunition during the operation.
The Israeli Army Radio said soldiers opened fire "after confronting those on board carrying sharp objects".
Free Gaza Movement, the organisers of the flotilla, however, said the troops opened fire as soon as they stormed the ships.
Israeli military also reports that four soldiers were injured and taken to hospital.
They also said the ships were now being towed to the Israeli town of Haifa, instead of Ashdod to avoid waiting journalists.
Earlier, the Israeli navy had contacted the captain of the Mavi Marmara, asking him to identify himself and say where the ship was headed.
Shortly after, two Israeli naval vessels had flanked the flotilla on either side, but at a distance.
Organisers of the flotilla carrying 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid then diverted their ships and slowed down to avoid a confrontation during the night.
They also issued all passengers life jackets and asked them to remain below deck.
Al Jazeera’s Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting from Jerusalem, said the Israeli action was surprising.
"All the images being shown from the activists on board those ships show clearly that they were civilians and peaceful in nature, with medical supplies on board. So it will surprise many in the international community to learn what could have possibly led to this type of confrontation," he said.
Meanwhile, Israeli police have been put on a heightened state of alert across the country to prevent any civil disturbances.
Protests
Condemnation has been quick to pour in after the Israeli action.
Thousands of Turkish protesters tried to storm the Israeli consulate in Istanbul soon after the news of the operation broke. The protesters shouted "Damn Israel" as police blocked them.
Turkey is also reported to have summoned the Israeli ambassador to lodge a protest.
"(The interception on the convoy) is unacceptable ... Israel will have to endure the consequences of this behaviour," the Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement.
Ismail Haniya, the Hamas leader in Gaza, has also dubbed the Israeli action as "barbaric".
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian activists, including a Nobel laureate and several European legislators, were with the flotilla, aiming to reach Gaza in defiance of an Israeli embargo.
But Israel had said it would not allow the flotilla to reach the Gaza Strip and vowed to stop the six ships from reaching the coastal Palestinian territory.
The flotilla had set sail from a port in Cyprus on Sunday and aimed to reach Gaza by Monday morning.
Israel said the boats were embarking on "an act of provocation" against the Israeli military, rather than providing aid, and that it had issued warrants to prohibit their entrance to Gaza.
It asserted that the flotilla would be breaking international law by landing in Gaza, a claim the organisers rejected.

IPOH: Defending champions India kept up their smashing form in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament and scored a 4-3 win over world champions Australia yesterday.
It was a memorable win for India, whose last victory over Australia was in 2003 in a four-nation tournament in Sydney.
India took a 3-0 lead in the first half with two goals by Tushar Khandker (19th, 33rd) and the other by skipper Rajpal Singh (22nd). Australia pulled two goals back early in the second half with Trent Milton and Christopher Ciriello scoring in the 38th and 40th minutes respectively.
Shivender Singh put India 4-2 up in the 61st minute before Mark Peterson replied in the 69th minute.
India remained on top of the standings on 10 points while Australia have six points and are still in with a chance to make the final.
India’s assistant coach Harender Singh complimented his players for their ability to keep their cool and also to execute the game plan well.
“It was a tough match but the early goals helped us. We made some silly mistakes to let them back into the game in the second half. But the players rallied well to defend the lead and take the match,†he said.
South Korea bounced back into contention for a place in the final after demolishing China 5-3 in an earlier match.
The win gave the Koreans seven points from four matches and they face a must win situation in their remaining fixtures against Australia tomorrow and against Pakistan on Saturday.
The Koreans trailed by a third minute penalty corner goal by Sun Long before they equalised in the 25th minute through Cho Suk-hoon, who beat goalkeeper Su Rifeng from the top of the D.
Nam Hyun-woo made a penalty corner conversion in the 29th minute to put South Korea in front and You Hyo-sik stretched the lead to 3-1 in the 32nd minute.
China hit back right after resumption with Yu Yang scoring off a melee in the 37th minute but South Korea regained their two-goal lead through Yoon Sung-hoon in the 39th minute.
China were reduced to 10 men when Sun Zhixin was yellow carded and South Korea forced a penalty corner in the 46th minute, off which Lee Seung-il scored. The Chinese however reduced the deficit in the 59th minute through Meng Jun.
